Bordallo Pinheiro was a famous Portuguese cartoonist, humorist, illustrator, and political commentator. In 1885 he founded a ceramic factory, where he created the first of many iconic earthenware designs. His striking pieces are still produced here today, and imitations of this range can be found across the world – bearing testimony to his enduring popularity.
